Besides being the introduction to this site, I thought I'd write a little bit about myself, so you'd kinda get an idea of who's behind the web page. Okay for starters, my name is Melissa, I'm 47 y/o and happily married to Michael. We're the parents of 4 boys, a 22 year old, a 21, 19 & 18 year old. They are a handful, although our 22 year old son doesn't live with us. He lives in Washington State, where we lived at for 17 years.
We just made the cross country move last summer, headed for North Carolina, and although it didn't work out, we managed to get to Arkansas, where my brother and a dear friend of the family lives at. I had forgotten how muggy and humid it gets in the south, and Michael, who is from Pennsylvania, isn't used to it at all, and can't stand it. So much, that we're already planning on moving back to Pennsylvania, where he came from, in a few years.
I have always longed to go to college, and now that dream is about to be fulfilled, as I start my online studies on July 8th, with Colorado Technical University, and I'm studying for my Associates of Science in Medical Coding & Billing. I look forward to a long, and fulfilling career in the medical field. It's not an irony either, that all three of my cousins (all girls), are in the health care field as well. One is a registered nurse, the other one is a licensed practical nurse, a home health care giver, and the youngest one is also an L.P.N. and an E.M.T. and my husband's only sister is also an L.P.N. So we've got plenty of health care providers on both sides of the family. However, medical coding & billing is the financial / data entry end of the health care profession.
I am the oldest of three children, my brother is the middle child, and my baby sister is in Louisiana. My brother and I are just about on the outs, as I have discovered since being back in Arkansas, that I don't get along well with him.
Some of my interests are: writing (short stories, poetry) and hopefully one day will have something published; playing my violin; web design & graphics; photography; astronomy; bird-watching; reading (love to read just about anything, but I do favor romances, historical fiction, autobiographies, and biographies, historical non-fiction); and I also love crafting, as I do both plastic canvas needlework, crochet and am always looking to learn something new.
I was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, and when I was 20, I moved to Little Rock, Arkansas to be near my father, as he was getting very ill and dying. I stayed until a few months after his death in 1984, then I moved to Pennsylvania to be with Michael, whom I met through a Pen Pal organization.
We had been writing to each other for a few years, and after daddy died, I moved up there to get to know him better. We fell in love and married. We lived in Pennsylvania for five years, and the first two of our four boys were born there. Then in 1989, we moved to Washington State, where we would live for 17 years, and the last two of our four boys were born there.
Then last summer, we moved to North Carolina, and although it didn't work out (the services for our autistic son weren't really there), we came to Arkansas, and for me, it's come full circle, for we're in Little Rock, Arkansas, where I once lived, nearly a quarter of a century ago. Oh wow, when I put it like that, it seems like I'm so old.
And last but not least, I am a Child of God. I am a devout Christian, who has a deep and abiding love for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and our Heavenly Father. I believe in the Holy Spirit's indwelling in our hearts and lives.
I hope you've enjoyed learning a little about me, and what makes me tick.
